Colțești Fortress
A ruined 13th-century fortress on a limestone spur above the next village along from Rimetea — a short climb for a long view.

The background
Colțești is the other village in Rimetea’s commune, a couple of kilometres down the valley, and above it stand the ruins of a medieval fortress on a limestone outcrop.
There is not a great deal left — two towers and lengths of wall — and that is fine, because the reason to go up is the position. You get the Trascău hills, Piatra Secuiului from the other side, and both villages laid out below.
The walk
It is a short, steep path from the village rather than a hike, but it is rough underfoot and exposed at the top. Ordinary shoes are optimistic in wet weather.
Pair it with Rimetea. The two villages are the same outing, and the fortress is what gives an afternoon there a destination.
