About Humor Monastery

The background

Humor is the one to visit if the others have been busy. The church dates from 1530 and is smaller than its neighbours, with an open entrance porch — an innovation at the time — and no tower of its own. The dominant colour is a warm reddish brown, which makes it the odd one out in a group people arrive expecting to be blue.

It stands in the village of Mănăstirea Humorului, with a separate defensive tower nearby, and it is inscribed as one of the eight Churches of Moldavia.

Being on the same UNESCO list as Voroneț and reliably less crowded than it makes Humor the most sensible first stop of a monastery day, rather than the last one.
